Celltek Healthcare Medical Center, located in Benin City, Edo State, is at the forefront of advanced medical care in Nigeria. Known for its focus on hematology, oncology, and regenerative medicine, Celltek is one of the few medical centers in West Africa pioneering stem cell transplantation as a viable and accessible treatment option.
Celltek has made headlines for its groundbreaking work in stem cell therapy, particularly for conditions that were previously considered too advanced or expensive to treat locally. The center achieved a major milestone in 2019 when it performed Nigeria’s first documented stem cell transplant for blood cancer (multiple myeloma). This complex procedure involved harvesting the patient’s stem cells using advanced medical technology and reinfusing them after high-dose chemotherapy—a technique known as autologous stem cell transplantation
Another significant achievement came when the center successfully carried out haploidentical stem cell transplants (half-matched donor transplants) on two young children living with sickle cell disease. Using stem cells donated by their mothers, the children were successfully transitioned from the sickle cell genotype (SS) to the sickle cell trait (AS). These children showed no signs of sickle cell crises within a month after the procedure, a promising outcome that highlights stem cell therapy’s potential as a cure for sickle cell anemia.
Celltek operates with a multidisciplinary team of specialists across various fields—oncology, internal medicine, neurology, urology, and more. Under the guidance of respected hematologist Professor Godwin Bazuaye, the center has become a leader in stem cell transplantation in Nigeria. His leadership and years of expertise have helped bridge the gap between Nigerian medical practice and international standards.
Celltek Healthcare Medical Center is more than just a hospital—it represents hope for patients with life-threatening hematological conditions in Nigeria and West Africa. With its continued commitment to innovation, affordability, and high-quality care, the center is setting a new standard in regenerative medicine on the continent.
As research advances and awareness grows, Celltek’s stem cell program may soon serve as a model for other institutions across Africa seeking to develop local solutions to complex health challenges
